Mommy Makeover in Baton Rouge
What is a Mommy Makeover?
A Mommy Makeover in Baton Rouge is a combination of procedures to improve both the breasts and the abdomen. The Mommy Makeover is designed for women after they have finished having children.
During pregnancy and afterwards, a woman’s body goes through numerous changes: weight gain and loss, volume increase and decrease in the breasts, and loosening of the abdominal muscles and abdominal skin. A woman’s body continues to change with each pregnancy and often takes months after the child is born before the changes will subside.
If the resultant changes are not pleasing to the woman, then surgery is needed to correct the appearance of her body. It usually entails a Breast Lift (Mastopexy), possibly Breast Implants, and a Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty). Liposuction is usually added to the procedure to contour the results. Occasionally, if the breasts are too large, a Breast Reduction is performed instead of a Breast Lift.
Each Mommy Makeover is customized to each unique patient, and the exact combination of procedures varies depending on the patient’s needs and goals.
Timing of a Mommy Makeover
Most women choose a Mommy Makeover once childbearing is complete. The reason for the timing is that the result will last longer once the body changes are complete after childbirth. If a Mommy Makeover is performed and additional children are born, the results may change, requiring additional surgery to obtain the desired long-term result.
How long after childbirth should I wait for a Mommy Makeover?
Most women are advised to achieve goal weight and finish breastfeeding before a Mommy Makeover. This typically is 3-6 months after childbirth if not breastfeeding, or usually 3 months after cessation of breastfeeding.
Can I achieve improvement without surgery?
Unfortunately, many of the changes with pregnancies are irreversible without surgery. Breast skin and abdominal skin stretch out. Abdominal muscles become separated (Rectus Diastasis).
Diet and exercise will not correct the loose skin and loosened abdominal muscles. Only surgical correction can achieve this. Abdominal fat can be improved with diet and exercise; however, this is the only correction that non-operative measures can achieve.
What is the recovery of a Mommy Makeover?
The recovery varies based on the variety of procedures performed. It is best to follow your surgeon’s care instructions as closely as possible. Typically, for the breasts, there is no heavy lifting for three weeks. With the abdomen, there is no heavy lifting for 6 weeks. Most patients can return to work at 3 weeks with the lifting restrictions outlined above. Patients with more rigorous jobs need to take off longer.
The pain in the breasts usually lasts for a week with tightness for a month or two. Abdominal pain usually lasts 2 weeks to 3 weeks, with discomfort for a few additional weeks.
How do I determine which procedures will work for me?
The surgical plan will be developed with an individual consultation with Dr. Freel. Each Mommy Makeover is designed by Dr. Freel to address the patient’s specific needs. The plan is also devised with the patient’s input to achieve her desired look.
How much does a Mommy Makeover cost?
Price varies based on the different procedures performed. Typically, the cost is around $9,000 or more depending if implants are used. A discount is given to patients performing multiple procedures at once. Multiple procedures are performed at the same time to both lessen the cost for the patient and to minimize the recovery for the patient.
